arm candy

Fall 2011 bags are here, and you best be getting excited. After waiting months and months (and months) from seeing them on the runway in spring, you can finally have your pick of the gorgeous leathers and minks coming out. From the classic Diane von Furstenberg to the edgy Marc Jacobs, you can be sure there is something out there that will be your favourite piece of arm candy for the next few months.

Sorry this is a couple days late!

high class

There are some majorly coveted pieces this season, and this editorial in Vogue US September issue featuring Anja Rubik does an (almost) incredible job showing them all off. From the shoe that every editor wants their hand on by Alexander Wang to Riccardo Tisci's mink bag, these are some key pieces you'll want in your closet... NOW. Or perhaps a slightly cheaper version, for all you broke girls like me out there.

Of course this is only a little sampling of some to die for pieces, so tomorrow or the next day, I'll show you some of the bags I've had my eye on (hint: DvF) and shoes I've had bookmarked for weeks, just so I can take a quick peek at them. The life of being poor and hopelessly in love with fashion is almost heartbreaking.

Hey Joe

It's always a really exciting time of week when my roommates and I venture out to Loblaws. Not just because I enjoy grocery shopping trips, but because Loblaws is home to one of my favourite places. And I am going to share this favourite place with you.
While I'm sure you've all seen the catchy commercials ("Oh you pretty things, don't you know you're driving your mamas and papas insane?"), I'm truly concerned that you don't take Joe Fresh seriously. I mean, a clothing line in a grocery store? Really?

Well, guess what.
It is very, very serious. And it is very, very awesome.

It's safe to say that Joe is one of my favourite places to acquire my basic fashion needs. The line is simple and clean, and full of great fitting, comfortable pieces. If you're looking for basic tops, Joe is your go-to. Affordable, stylish (yes, it's actually stylish), and versatile.

So, while its location next to the frozen goods may throw you off a bit, don't underestimate the quality of Joe Fresh. With a variety of clothing and accessories to choose from, Joe is quickly becoming well known and respected. Next time you're grabbing dinner, take a peek. I guarantee you'll like what you see.

Love, Sarah

the worst thing

About a year ago, I posted about the horror of sequin Uggs that Oprah was promoting on her show. They were an ugly take on an already too popular boot that did nothing for anyone's outfit.

I didn't think anything could get worse until I saw these the other day:

These go by the name of 'Bootie Pies' and they are made of suede and faux sheepskin lining.

The company touts them as being the boot to wear in winter to keep your pedicure from being ruined. But really?? Is that the best sales pitch you can come up with for boots that cost a hundred bucks a pop that look like this. Hell, I'd walk home from the salon in the free flip flops they give you than wear these on my feet in the middle of winter.

What do you think? Am I being too harsh or is this going too far in the obsession of the Ugg boot?

Call girl

There are so many things a girl can do to turn a guys switch on. And fast.

But isn't it more fun when you're just out of reach? To drive him crazy, your cell phone can be a rather handy tool.

Using your phone to stimulate each other is good for long distance relationships and even relationships where you live together or see one another often. It's a nice surprise to spice things up.

Exhibit A: The Sext

Sure, you send your guy texts all day. Some of them are mundane and boring, maybe you tell him about how you fell on the bus (but mainly just so you have something to distract yourself from the embarrassment). And maybe just to say have a good day.

I know what your thinking..."the dangers of sexting"!! Well, luckily we're not 15 and you should know what you can and cannot sext to your partner. For example, if you are dating a dude for a week, don't send him a pic of your boobs, as he may show all of his bros. Lame.

A sext doesn't have to be a picture! You can always send a few naughty words his way when you both are in class or at work. It builds the excitement for when you finally get to see each other at the end of the day, week, whatever. It keeps you both thrilled and quite turned on. If a text can get you fellin' feverish, just wait til you hit the bedroom.

Of course, sexting can go a bit further than just dirty talk. If you're really comfortable with each other, sending a few sexy pictures showcasing your undies (or even your naughty bits, if you dare) could be fun, but you should make a deal to delete within a few days. After all, you get each other in the flesh. A photo just cannot compare!

Exhibit B: Phone Sex

For those of you who can't see your sweetie on the daily, this could be a way to make up for lack of proper lovin'...or if you just want to make a dirty phone call to your man while at home, go for it! Oh, and guys, don't be shy, you can try it too!

Of course, just like talking dirty in bed, talking dirty on the phone can also be a challenge for some. However, some may find it easier. There's a barrier there, you can't see each other, so everything depends on your words. So don't be shy.

So, you might be wondering, "how do I get this going"?

Well, don't tell him. Just do it.

Get yourself in the mood and put on something sexy. Light some candles and lay in bed.

Call him and when he answers (oh, make sure it IS him who answers) just jump right into it. Tell him how much you want him and wish they were there in bed with you.

Then you can move on to telling him what your wearing, what you want to do to him, and what you are currently doing to yourself, if you know what I mean. You want to paint a picture in his head and make him feel like he's right there. Ask him questions and describe what you're doing. Even though there's some heavy petting happening with one person in the room, the phone line between you helps a lot.

Just remember to not think about what you're saying too much. Keep it natural, but feel free to explore some thoughts that may cross your mind without worrying what they think. Something over the phone might spark an idea for your next sexual encounter...when you're both there!

I challenge YOU to send a sexy note or make a frisky phone call. Who knows what pleasures it could bring...

This collection makes me miss summer. So badly. And it just ended.

class is now in session...

Which means your fall wardrobe better be up to par. No sweatpants, UGGs or Lulu Lemon's allowed. You can spend the money you would on those brands on something that looks unique and will help you look the part of a serious student... even if you're just lurking Facebook on your MacBook during lectures.

1.
Since plastic bags are no longer allowed and most canvas carry bags can hardly be traded for wear as a purse, try out this beauty. It's a beautiful leather bag that looks exactly like those canvas bags we have stored in our cabinets, cars and under our beds. They're pretty, but a little pricey at $200. However, it is probably one of the most fashion forward grocery bags I've stumbled upon. Check it here

2.
A book curated mostly by Olivier Zahm, it shows both the personal and professional lives of Carine Roitfeld. Take a study break and relish in the life of one of the most fashionable and interesting ladies alive. (In my opinion, anyways!)

3.

These Friend of Mine claw boots were just recently released. They're great for fall as you can toss them on with a pair of jeans or dress them up with a dress when you're running around through Fashion Weeks. All in all, these are your must needed statement boot right now.

4.

Sophia Reyes just released her Fall '11 lookbook, and this Underarm Drop Back Dress in violet is one piece that stood out among the other pieces of the collection. The great thing about it, and most dresses, is it is an easy outfit to pull together on those days when you have an 8:30 lecture and want five more minutes of sleep. Blazer, dress, heels and out the door. Get it here

5.

Get in on the native-inspired trend that's so easy to pull off by ordering this Mike Gonzalez Jane Boucle Sweater now. Get it here

Fantasia

Let me kick off this blog post with an apology! I found my brain stirring ideas for days at a time but lacking the right moment when I could nestle into my couch for a good solid session of writing for you all. And for this I am sorry!

Now we can blast off!

We all have those thoughts in our heads that we might feel a bit awkward saying out loud. It seems as though we have been brought up in a society where letting your darkest desires surface is shameful and wrong. I would like to stand up and defy this societal norm which most young men and women seem to abide by.

If you want something you should scream it out loud!

What am I talking about? Your sexual fantasies of course.

There is a lot out there to cover, it would take me days and many pages to go over it. But maybe one day, I will try.

They can range from being tied up and slapped around to having the pool boy rip off your bikini. There are leather fetishes and rape fantasies, dominating and being dominated. The nurse who wants to make you feel better or the dominatrix who wants to handcuff you...

Whatever you pleasure, make it known to your partner. Sometimes it takes time to come out and admit that you want something in the bedroom, but the sooner you fess up, the better!

So here's how to come clean with your fantasies without worry...

First of all, don't be shy or ashamed. No matter what it is, be assured its normal and you're allowed to think about and DO whatever turns you on. If the person you're with can't understand that, well, I'm afraid they may just have to hit the road. If they feel uncomfortable, you will also feel uncomfortable. And when you're having sex, you should be able to let loose without over-thinking anything, in fact you shouldn't be thinking about much at all.

Once you've said something, they probably will too. Having one of you come forward makes it so much easier for both of you to talk about what turns you on. Communication is key in the bedroom if you want to have fun and feel great.

Then, once everything is out in the open, it's play time!

Oh, but you should have a safety word if play time ever gets too rough...

Share with me! What's your fantasy?

golddigger

Vogue Germany September 2011  ft.  Mirte Maas

Try the bronze make-up look when you're feeling tired. It brightens everything up and will look stunning paired with a gold silk top.

trailblazer

As leaves change colour and begin to fall, it’s time for a change in our wardrobes too. We need to say goodbye to our floral rompers, open-toed wedges and crop tops. I know, it’s sad. But, as the saying goes: “every new beginning comes from some other beginnings end.

The end to summer marks the return of our leather bombers and cashmere scarves. Yes, this is exciting. However, dressing for fall does pose problems. The main problem for me is how to wear a blazer yet still look sexy.

How exactly can one rock a blazer without looking like Hillary Clinton or Margaret Thatcher?

Suggestion 1: Instead of going for a plain and solid fabric try something different like lace. It’s in this season and can spice up any outfit.

Suggestion 2: Try patchwork elbows. They make any blazer look less stiff and more chilled out.

Suggestion 3: To add excitement to your outfit, find a blazer with sleeves that are slightly rolled up to expose a different colour/print.

Suggestion 4: Don’t wear a blazer that is the exact same colour and fabric as the bottoms you will be wearing. Wearing a female suit is something you should probably save until you turn 40. Instead, try wearing a different colour bottom or even a dress underneath your blazer.

Suggestion 5: DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT, ever wear a full sequin blazer. Just because Beyonce did it at the VMAs does not mean everyone has free reign to do it too. I guarantee it will look tacky in 99% of situations.

Anyways, hope you take some of my advice on making blazers look good. If you’re interested in checking out some girls who know how to rock blazers check out: http://fuckyeahgirlsinblazers.tumblr.com/
