toes

I'm finally done exams and am heading back home tomorrow for a couple weeks. But before I head out and potentially forget to post (I do apologize in advance), check out these shoes!

Faux skin

I've never been a huge fan of Dr. Martens footwear - everytime I try and enjoy the iconic brand, I get nervous and turned off by he huge toes on the front of the shoe. I've avoided them for years - I bought knock-of military boots just because of the smaller toe on them!

pastels

But it seems now this avoidance will have to end. Dr. Martens spring/summer 2011 collection looks inviting, with floral prints (my fave), faux snakeskin prints and casual lace-ups. The big win for me here is the toes! I am definitely considering purchasing a pair with Christmas/birthday/government money!

Fave - florals!!

I really like this collection because the shoes still have grip to help me avoid falling on the ice outside and I can wear them in rotation with my black military boot. I do think they are heading into stores after the winter season, but I feel like this is going to be awesome.

I think these are going to be my first investment in Dr. Martens

ALSO Please never, ever purchase these Footstickers, as pictured below. I don't understand. Will people be wearing them outside or are they to work as a kind of indoor slipper?

Footstickers??

Would you wear them?

Because it's Christmas time and I don't have enough time to put together a full post, I'm going to put up pieces from my wishlist up. Enjoy!

two-faced.

I think it's time for a quick study break...

I've been noticing a lot of interesting watches come up in the last few weeks, but I think my favourite look are these dual-faced watches.

In God We Trust, 40.00
Each face has a different time, so it's perfect if you travel, or plan on being in two time-zones frequently.

The above one is from In God We Trust, a company based in NYC that just exudes cool. The jewellery pieces are very unique, as is most of the pieces of clothing. Check out the boutique online here.

Corazon
The above watch is super cute as well, and I would have splurged on it had it a) not requried me to pay for shipping from Japan and b) been sold out. What really sells me on this piece is the difference between the two watch faces. One is very simple and classic, with just Roman numerals on the face, whereas the second is more playful and modern.

What do you think of dual faced watches?

mcqueen.

When Alexander McQueen passed away in last February, I was so overcome with sadness when I heard the news. His designs were influential and beautiful, and he had such an influence on my personal style.

Here's a video from the upcoming collection for Alexander McQueen.

lonely, lonely, lonely

Florals were my absolute favourite thing this summer. It seemed item of clothing I bought somehow had a floral print - tanks, dresses, rompers... Everything. It got to a point where it was a ridiculous. I loved pairing florals with a pleather jacket, as it was a combination that I guess is 'atypical'? Haha, I don't know. Anyways, fall came and winter is here and I have stopped wearing most of these prints. However, Lonely Hearts new collection 'little bandit' is wonderful and definitely makes me want me to reintroduce floral back into my wardrobe/life/shopping list.

FAVOURITE. Just saying.

Notice the headscarf? Try it.

Also, please look at the styling! It definitely makes the look. The military boots with florals and soft, feminine dresses makes an interesting and lovely photo!

alexander wang

While procrastinating on a legal research paper today, I stumbled upon Alexander Wang's Spring/Summer 2011 bags and I am impressed and in love. There are so many interesting details - buckles, metal hardware and some square design.

The above bag is my absolute favourite from the collection. It's black,  a shoulder-bag and the multiple buckles are wonderful. If somehow I manage to not be student broke in the next month, consider this mine!

I do like the above bag, but it's not one I see myself carrying. Suede and I do not get along, especially in the winter months.

The metal detail on this baby is just wonderful, as is the structured design. Perfect for a night out.

Again, I am so impressed with the metal detailing on the bottom of these two bags. The black is my fave (Are you surprised?!)

Now, I am not a huge fan of colour when it comes to bags, as I tend to only have a couple at a time and I ruin them with pen ink. However, this one may have changed my mind!

This is my second favourite of the collection. The simple design with the metal detail on the bottom corners and the clasp on top make this bag one that can be taken everywhere.

sequins

Before reading this post, don't misjudge. I am a huge fan of sequins. Sequined shoulders on a black tank dress are wonderful. Sequined leggings are something I crave, but absolutely cannot find (or make, for that matter).

Les Chiffoniers' silver sequin leggings.
Wonderful!

Seriously, this summer, I rounded up my good friend and convinced her to try and make sequin leggings with me. We bought leggings from Garage, and then I searched all over for silver sequins. After finding them at Michael's, I bought four packs and went home to make this idea come to life. After about four hours and ten sequins, I realized why these leggings cost a fortune - it takes a ridiculous amount of time to sew sequins. Needless to say, I am still sequin-legging free - but hopefully not for long.

Anyways - the point of this is I do have a soft spot for sequins. Unless they go on something like this:

First of all, the sight of Uggs make me cringe. I don't understand their appeal, especially when paired with yoga pants outside of a home.

Second, I respect Oprah and what she does. But she featured these on her Oprah's Ultimate Favourite Things 2010 show, which unnecessarily showed women all over these boots.

Finally, sequined Uggs? I don't think I can stress how much I disapprove of this..

chain mail

In 2007, Bliss Lau started a line that may have kick-started a huge trend right now: body jewelery.

Body jewelery is beautiful and yet, so simple. Lau took the simple design of a necklace and transformed it into something that can almost be deemed a work of art. Her pieces are multifunctional, and easily dress up a simple white t-shirt and certainly make any LBD stand out.

Although her pieces are upwards of $500 or more, similar (and more wallet-friendly!) pieces can also be found at Karmaloop and 80's Purple.

What do you think of body jewelery? Will you be adding it to your wardrobe?

all i want is

Jeffrey Campbell shoes.

I am so obsessed lately. To the point where it is affecting my school work (seriously, eight hours in the library, two hours dedicated to looking at shoes, six hours watching Mad Men).

Although I am a huge stiletto fan, the 5 inch wedged heel look is wonderful. Why?

  • Dancing? Check!
  • Thirty minute walk home? Check!
  • Work with everything you own? Check!
Grab a pair ASAP, or be jealous of the girls who have snapped them up.

je n'aime pas.

I don't understand the sudden obsession with cats and cat videos and clothing with cats on it.

Can someone please, please explain this to me?

pretty in white

I love Joseph Altuzarra.

So it only goes to stand that I would love his Spring 2011 collection.
This collection featured outfits based on a black and white colour scheme, and an interesting kind of snake-skin print as an accent. The whole look is very clean, very modern, and very eye-catching.

I really loved the pops of random color - yellow belts, blue in the hair, green bracelets. I find that by adding colour that way, the attention stays on the clothing, but the outfit as a whole is still completely beautiful.

Altazurra was born and raised in Paris, and then went to Swarthmore College in Philadelphia. Here he studied Art and Art History and focused on fashion and architecture. After school, he headed to NYC, interned for Marc Jacobs (!) and then joined Proenza Schouler as a freelance designer. Riccardo Tisci took Altazurra on staff for Givenchy in October 2006 as design assistant in Paris. While he was there, he decided to return back to New York City and launch his own line.

I'm more in love with the white outfits, but since anything black catches my eye, I decided to show one for good measure. Enjoy!

computer glitches

Apologies are in order. I have been having a Macbook crisis for the past week and it doesn't look like it will be fixed any time soon, unfortunately. The inside of my computer started to melt (wtf?) and after a repair, it's even worse for wear. I have been bouncing around on my roommates' and the library's computer, but this blog gets put to the backburner to homework and another project I'm working on. Stay posted for updates soon (I promise!!)

Loose Cannons Clothing

I'm starting this out with a sincere apology... school has again been insanely busy, so the blog has fallen to the back of my pile of To Do's. However, school has also allowed me to do an interesting project.

Check it out here!

Kevin Reid, left, and Chris Danforth, right.

I recently interviewed Chris Danforth and Kevin Reid, two Carleton University students who launched Loose Cannons Clothing, a clothing line in Ottawa. The two work on designs they say will make their consumers think about clothing. Everything is made in Canada, from the t-shirts to the tags. These guys are dedicated.

is this real?

I think it is safe to say that there is not much in fashion that I am abhorrently against. However, I am drawing a line at fashion sweatpants. That phrase in itself is an oxymoron - meaning this trend should have been stopped at the idea process. I don't think I have ever seen them on a runway before Spring/Summer 2010, and it hurts me to see it.

I mean, is there really a point to wearing furs, leathers and sky high heels if your final piece is $1,000 pair of elastic waist band sweats?

What do you think about these pants? Are you willing to try them out or  do you share the same position as me?

Please check out this blog if you haven't already heard of it!

Camel Cape

P.S. - I made this... is a blog devoted to DIY clothing projects which was founded by New Yorker Erika Domesek. Domesek is a style and DIY expert who posts pretty regularly with new projects for thrifty (broke) people to create. I absolutely love most of the projects on the site, as they are relatively cheap and easy to create. Domesek's motto for the project is "I see it.  I like it.  I make it."

Domesek also recently published a book which can be purchased at Amazon Canada. I have unfortunately not been able to check it out yet, but I've heard some good things! I think I'm going to have to purchase it in the near future, because I enjoy reading instructions out of a book and not online.

Materials needed for said cape!
If you choose to make this cape, I would suggest draping it a bit more and adding a black leather belt around your middle so you don't lose your shape!

lookbook love

Check it on LOOKBOOK
I'm a sucker for military inspired clothing, as most of my friends know. Anything with a little bad-ass attitude to it catches my eye, and I that is why I love this look. The green parka and the black bootie paired together screams 'tough' (I guess!), but the way she paired a flimsy hat with a bow and a plain beige skirt with the outfit really pulls this look together.

Also, I apologize for the delay in posting, both now in advance, as everything is going to be HECTIC and crazy for the next couple of weeks.

hide and seek

i feel really lost right now. and i don't know to describe this feeling, or get away from it, or even just forget it.
this isn't normal, nor is it what i like.

want to go for a ride?

Hermès Spring 2011. No words necessary.
Except I am in awe, as in mind-blown with this collection. Usually Hermès is a little too 'mature' for me, but this collection captured (almost) everything that is in trend, and in a way that is (almost) ready to wear.

Collections like these make me so happy.

Enjoy!
